In September 2000, Norwich University
became acquainted with mGen, Inc. as a direct result
of a white paper evaluation they were performing for
the U.S. Air Force. The white paper included the evaluation
of Learning Management Systems (LMS) as well as an architecture
that would be capable of scaling to service personnel
worldwide. Norwich determined that the mGen Enterprise
solution was the optimal tool and architecture to best
achieve this goal.
In December 2000, Norwich entered into
a partnership with mGen to deploy mGen Enterprise on
the Norwich campus as part of its own distance learning
program. Norwich had been engaged in distance learning
training for over five years, so in order to transition
it's existing LMS to mGen Enterprise, mGen trained key
Norwich personnel on the system and the mGen Production
Suite. As a result of the training Norwich received,
mGen Enterprise was online within two weeks of the contract
award. Meeting this short deadline was critical, since
Norwich's upcoming holiday break period only allowed
for certain amount of time to perform system updates
or transitions.
Today, mGen Enterprise is being used
to train federal, state and corporate personnel around
the country in various Norwich led training initiatives.
As the system grows it will serve the residents and
civilian learners throughout the world.
"At Norwich University,
we have spent many years testing and utilizing different
Learning Management Systems (LMS). With our experience
in designing and delivering courseware to the National
Guard Bureau, we've identified the necessary elements
that are needed from a LMS in order to support our courses.
mGen has provided us with an LMS that is sturdy, scalable,
automated and able to quickly integrate into our existing
infrastructure."
