The U.S. Army's Battle Command Training Program (BCTP), located at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas oversees the training for all National Guard brigades in the United States and Puerto Rico. In an effort to increase and improve war-fighting preparedness, the BCTP deployed mGen Enterprise to allow soldiers to take Web-based courses to assist in their preparation for their training at Fort Leavenworth. Some of the courses offered to soldiers via mGen Enterprise include General Studies, Maneuver, Intelligence, Fire Support, Mobility and Survivability, Air Defense, Command and Control and Combat Service Support.

In the past, the BCTP utilized CD-based courses to deliver training, however, they encountered limitations in the ability to keep course content up to date as well as the amount of mentoring observer trainers could perform for the soldier, which is critical to the success of the program. Recognizing these inefficiencies, BCTP decided that employing a Web-based training program through mGen Enterprise would eliminate these problems and provide the means to reach and support soldiers anywhere in the United States.

After receiving acceptance by the Command and General Staff College to use mGen Enterprise, which is also used by the Army's Classroom XXI Program, the BCTP began to transition classes to the system. Today, BCTP observer trainers are able to receive instant feedback on the progress of soldiers' training and provide mentorship when requested. Additionally, observer trainers monitor both individual and collective progress based on performance in a specific class or position.

Soldiers have unlimited access to subject matter experts and peers in the learning process, and the ability to search an organizational knowledge base that contains valuable lessons and information, which enables them to do their jobs more effectively and efficiently. The soldiers are impressed with the immediate feedback they are able to receive, which helps to keep participation levels high. By approaching Web-based training as part of an ongoing organizational knowledge initiative, the BCTP is ensuring that learning will continue before, during and after a specific course of training is completed.

" We are very excited by the opportunities the mGen solution has provided us. By providing courses remotely through the mGen system, we have increased our level of training and support to training units, who are now well prepared in advance of attending their seminar at Fort Leavenworth. In addition, mGen Enterprise has enabled us to receive instant feedback on the progress of the soldiers attending the seminar, provide mentorship when a soldier requests it and adjust the training when necessary."
